"FACING EAST" began with a Chicago workshop in October 2011, followed by a concert performance supporting the Trevor Project. Directed by Andrew Hobgood, the show featured book and lyrics by Mark-Eugene Garcia and music by David Rigano, based on Carol Lynn Pearson's play. Notably, it received a nomination for the 2011 BroadwayWorld Chicago Awards in the Best Special Event category. Subsequent performances supported various causes, including Resource Center Dallas/Youth First and Stonewall and Pride in London. In 2016, the full production took place at the Jericho Arts Centre, produced by Nathan Gardner and directed by Ryan Mooney, with a cast led by Jesse Alvarez, Matt Montgomery, Mandana Namazi, and Francis Boyle.
